The Squaxin Island Tribe (The People of the Water) are a maritime culture located in northwest Washington.

The tribe is less than 3,000 members, yet they employ over a dozen scientists in their Natural Resources Department to collect data and develop long term reports.

The movie tells the story of how the Squaxin Island Tribe, through the work of their scientists benefits the tribe as well as the surrounding communities.
